What it is
The Hornet XL is McElroy’s largest all-in-one outlet fusion tool, taking the guided Hornet approach up to 160 mm branches and giving you a cost-effective alternative to prefabrication. It self-aligns on the center of the main, and the carriage keeps the drilled hole and the fitting on the same axis through the entire process, so the fusion lands accurate on branch after branch.
An integrated chain clamp attaches to mains from 110 mm and larger, and one operator runs the whole cycle in any orientation, including overhead and vertical. The drill adapter resists torque for a smoother cut, guide rod brackets and a built-in stripping mechanism keep the heater under control as it pulls away from molten material, a carriage brake locks position, and the drive handle swings side to side for extra clearance in tight quarters.
The carriage can also make standard socket fusions with standard heater adapters while the machine stays on the main, and a quick-change pull pin accepts standard Acrobat inserts for fusing pre-pupped outlets. It works with all existing McElroy socket and outlet welding heads for PPR-RCT. For ½″–2″ outlets, the standard Hornet is the lighter tool.

Power & Generator
The Hornet XL itself is hand-driven. The electrical load is the McElroy heater, available in 120V and 240V versions at 1,600W, so any standard jobsite circuit or a small generator with 1,600W of headroom runs it. Details are in our power and generator requirements guide.

The Hornet XL is a PPR-RCT tool. It fuses outlet fittings onto PPR-RCT mains using standard McElroy heaters and welding heads.
