What You Need Before the Machine Ships

A fusion machine rental goes right when the jobsite is ready before the machine shows up. Most of what follows takes a phone call or an hour of prep, but skipping it is how crews lose a day standing around a machine they cannot power, lift, or run.

These are the HDPE fusion machine rental requirements we walk through with every customer before a machine ships anywhere in the western U.S., from Washington down to New Mexico and everywhere between. None of it is complicated. All of it matters.

Five Things to Have Squared Away

1. Someone who knows the machine

You do not need a certified fusion technician on staff to rent from us, but someone on the crew should be familiar with the class of machine you are renting. If it has been a while, or the crew is new to fusion, start with our training videos, they cover the basic butt fusion and electrofusion workflow. We also walk you through the specific machine before it ships.

2. Correct power on site

Wrong power is the number-one cause of lost rental days, so we wrote a full guide on it: fusion machine power and generator requirements. Short version: know the voltage, phase, and generator size your machine needs, and have that power source on site and running before delivery. Generators are easy to rent through national rental networks in nearly every western market, we will tell you exactly what to ask for.

3. A way to unload and move the machine

Handling needs scale with pipe size:

• Electrofusion processors are hand-carry. One person, no equipment.
• Small butt fusion machines (up to 6″) break down into components two people can lift, and they ride fine in a pickup bed.
• Mid-size machines (up to around 10″) need a liftgate, forklift, or loader to get off the truck and around the site.
• Large machines (14″ and up) need real equipment, a forklift, telehandler, or excavator with rigging, at delivery and every time the machine moves along the ditch.

4. Pipe prepped and staged

The rental clock runs whether you are fusing or hunting for pipe. Before the machine arrives, have pipe strung along the alignment or staged at the fusion station, ends clean and undamaged, and fittings on hand. Confirm that your pipe’s diameter and DR match the tooling on your rental, we verify this when you book, because a mismatch discovered on delivery day is expensive.

5. Access for delivery

Tell us up front if the site involves soft ground, steep grades, gated access, tight turnarounds for a truck and trailer, or remote roads, common conditions on Mountain West and rural Pacific Northwest jobs. None of that is a dealbreaker. Surprises on delivery day are the only real problem.

Paperwork, in Plain Language

No stack of forms, but expect the basics that come with any equipment rental:

• Certificate of insurance. Your insurance agent can issue one covering the rented equipment. This is standard practice and usually takes a day or less to get.
• Deposit. Collected when the rental is booked, settled when the machine comes back in good order.
• Rental agreement. Plain terms, the rate, the rental period, and who is responsible for the machine while it is on your site.

We will give you the specific amounts and requirements when you request a quote, so you can route the paperwork before your start date instead of during it.

Return Condition

Send the machine back the way you would want to receive it:

• Wiped down, no caked mud or pipe shavings in the clamps, rollers, or heater plate surfaces.
• All tooling, inserts, cords, and accessories accounted for and packed the way they arrived.
• Any damage or issues flagged to us before the return, not discovered on our dock.

Normal jobsite wear is expected, these machines work for a living. Missing tooling, damage beyond normal wear, or a machine that needs heavy cleaning gets billed against the deposit. Flag problems early and we will usually find the cheapest path through them together.
